Abstract

|
A case of secondary chondrosarcoma originating from hereditary multiple exostosis of the middle portion of the right tibia in a 31 years old male is reported.
Since childhood, the patient began to notice hard bean sized masses on the right middle figer, right tibia and right distal femur, and the mass over the tibia showed a rather gradually growing tendency from 6 years prior to admission.
The patient was treated in other clinics two times, 6 years ago and 2 years prior to admission to our hospital, by local resection of the mass over the tibia under the diagnosis of multiple exostosis. On admission, a mass had -reappeared and the patient complained of this irregular shaped hard mass on the anterior aspect of the right tibia and tenderness over the mass.
Roentgenographic, arteriographic and surgical biopsy studies were performed. Clinical findings, familial history and the above studies confirmed it to be a secondary chondrosarcoma which had originated from an exostosis.
We recommended A-K amputation but the patient was discharged against advice.
